“SO LONG AS MILLIONS LIVE IN HUNGER AND IGNORANCE, I HOLD EVERY PERSON A TRAITOR WHO, HAVING BEEN EDUCATED AT THEIR EXPENSE, PAYS NOT THE LEAST HEED TO THEM.” – Swami Vivekananda.
These words of Swami Vivekananda have always been our source of inspiration, motivating us at GlobalEdge to do our bit for society. Responsibility is one of our core values, and we don’t limit it only to our business. We have taken this spirit to the world around us, where our constant endeavour is to bring about change and help young Indians discover themselves.
We are involved in a series of social initiatives aimed at helping children and the underprivileged. This is only the start as we strive to spread our initiatives to other sections of society as well.
Our CSR Initiatives
Educating Young India
At GlobalEdge, we believe that every child has the right to a quality education. If he or she has the opportunity, we believe that these children can contribute to the future of our country. To support the education of underprivileged children, we have joined hands with ‘Youth for Seva’, a non-government organization that gives school-going children educational kits every year. It is the smiles of over 2,500 children who inspire us to walk that extra mile every time. The project is supported by various corporates and reaches out to over 25,000 children, and the number is increasing.
Providing mid-day meals for children
In addition, nurturing and nourishing the young generation has been a core part of our CSR initiatives. We work with Akshaya Patra, an NGO run by ISKCON to reach underprivileged children in rural schools and provide them with mid-day meals. With these programs, we hope that no child shall ever be deprived of nutritious food and a good education going forward.
Helping Street Children
Our CSR vision also includes the rehabilitation of street children and the provision of access to shelter, recreation, and a healthy environment. GlobalEdge is supporting NELE, an NGO working to rehabilitate street children, destitute kids, kids of single parents, and orphans. Around 350 children in 7 shelters are being rehabilitated through this project by providing shelter, food, and education, and nurturing them as civilized citizens. GlobalEdge extends our support in various ways including providing educational support. We aim to take this number higher in the coming years.
Schooling for the Underprivileged
In our country, higher education is out of reach for the underprivileged due to higher costs and lack of a support system. We see talented children with untapped potential losing out on opportunities to transform their lives. Partnering with BASE (Bangalore Academy for Specialized Education), we run ‘Tapas’, a residential program that identifies meritorious youngsters who lack financial support. We then coach them for higher education. Through this program, over 120 students have qualified for courses in the Indian Institute of Technology and successfully enrolled in NITs and other top engineering colleges in Karnataka.
We support a policy advocacy and research foundation called Development Foundation (www.devf.org). The foundation was established in response to an existing need for debate and rethinking in the area of what constitutes the right kind of development model. It advocates the need for in-depth research on various socio-economic, cultural, and governance issues that pertain to Indian society.
At GlobalEdge, we believe that taking the long view helps our young and talented society. In order to understand the need for rigorous debate and clear thinking in the area of development studies, we have teamed up with Development Foundation. We attempt to address the critical issues in development and promote in-depth research and policy advocacy in socioeconomic, cultural issues, governance, and development models.
In all that we do, GlobalEdge brings its spirit of innovation, respect, learning, rigorous analysis, and fairness in our efforts to contribute to society.
